It's been decades since China came back to market economy, even though it has been through several decades' collective economy, Chinese people showed no lack of comprehending and mastering market tricks.
It's commonly believed that sellers are all liars, if they tell you a price, you better cut at least in half when you bargain, One of the most used phrase of sellers on street is: "please don't bargain any further, I'm already selling at a loss." Which is never the truth, well, at least so we consumers believe. Consumers also developed a lot of tricks to deal with tough sellers, such as conducting a long and patient bargain process and then just walk away, the seller may feel frustrated for wasting so much energy in talking price ended up sell nothing so they usually shout out a final low price that might please you right when you turn around.
Sellers are trying to hide the information, buyers are trying to guess.
It's always such a pain to shop on small market and street market in China. Now the market is more regulated, supermarkets and big shopping centers rapidly took over the role of small local markets, bargaining price is becoming less and less important a skill in our daily lives, thank goodness, I was really bad at it.
See, here "organization" took over the role of "market" eventually, due to the limit of market power, the inefficiency of market allocation.
