How to defeat expert CPU in Topspin 4
Some tips for you to improve your skill in this game, my tips are based on my game playing Djokovic vs Nadal, when using different players may need to pay attention to different aspects.
you need to be able to defeat "hard" level easily to read this, if not yet, you'll be better off to get familiar with all the basics by practising more.
1.use advanced serve. Most players in topspin 4 don't have very good serve even Federer. Advanced serve provides you much more power and speed than just pressing the buttons.
2.use more top spin shot, the game is called "topspin" and there's a reason for that. Top spin shot is not the most efficient attacking weapon when it comes to an opportunity but it's most needed baseline shot, to make opponent move around, buying more time to return to a good position, to drive your opponent far away from court, to guarantee a rally goes on... Use flat shot when there's a big chance, once your opponent is far away from the center, his court is wide open, then do flat shot and kill.
3.use slice control shot to save balls that are hard to reach. When the opponent opens angle making you running around, try slice control shot, buying yourself more time to get back to a good position so that you may just turn defensive into aggressive on next shot.
4.focus, watching the opponent's move, observe where does the ball go right after the opponent hit the ball, not just staring at the yellow first bounce sign. Don't overreact, after returning a ball far away from the court, most people tend to run as fast as he can to go back and usually forgot to stop, right here at this moment your opponent may deliver a good wrong-foot shot to you. Try to move more gingerly if time allows you, especially when you get back to the court.
5. use some strategy as real life tennis, more changes in your shots and the side you are attacking can help.
6.good timing is important, this is basic but still need to be emphasised, good timing depends on the speed of in coming ball, the relative position you are standing at to the ball, the type of shot of the incoming ball and so on. Good timing is better than full power, don't get obsessed with getting full power even if you are a power player.
7.good attitude, relax, focus, put yourself into the game, forget everything else. Especially don't think about writing a blog to show off how to defeat an expert when you got 3 match points at 5-3. That's how I ended up losing the game.
