Learning a new language sometimes can be a little frustrating, very often people get lost and confused about what to do to improve their language skills. Here are 9 things you should do to help yourself conquer the new language, you don't necessarily have to do all of them, but keep in mind that the richer your combination of learning tactics is the better.1.Have a proper motivation. Sure you can learn a language without motivation, such as in school, but that only serves as something that's bothering you in life if you are not enjoying it or determined to take it. Find a good motivation, why am I drawn to that language, am I going to use it one day? Am I going to travel or even move to that country? No matter it's driven by a dream of yours, an inspiration from a friend, a necessity of survival, as long as you have strong will, the rest will come much more quickly to you.
.Watch a bunch of tv show and movies in that language, read books if you can. Turn this language into something you can use as an entertainment, that makes your learning full of fun. Also it's the first and easiest way to practice your listening and reading skill, much like an infant, absorb as much as he can before really speak.
.Talk to yourself in your target language, get used to use it in your mind. When you do something, try to explain it to yourself in that language, basically just monologue, it's a small thing but it can help you to establish a direct connection between things in physical world and concepts in mind, so that you won't have to translate it from your first language when you attempt to say something. After some practice you can achieve a stage of "thinking in foreign language". Remember, to make it natural, you have to force yourself a little bit upfront.
.Train your tongue. Practice and practice more, speak and speak more, give yourself some time to train your tongue, your muscle, this is very necessary if you want to speak the language fluently and accurately, moreover, it's definitely a must for learners that have very distinct mother tongue such as between Asian languages and European languages.
.Find a bunch of friends of native speaker, or even better get yourself in a relationship with a native speaker. Nothing comes more naturally than picking up a language in real life, surround yourself with native speakers and you'll get a lot of free and fun practice time.
.Now it's time to tune in to receive information in that language. Whether or not you can learn a language as naturally depends on how much information do you receive in that language each day. The goal here is to increase the amount of information you receive in that language as much as possible, you may consider to read news and wiki in that language. Anyway, the more you know, the easier to understand a foreign language.
.With sufficient input, now you need output to try your skill in real battle field. Write articles in a foreign language, you'll learn a lot along the way googling the words and phrases you didn't know. The only natural way to learn a language is to attempt to use it.
.Now it's a challenging one, if you find a job in that country, work with people who only speak their own language, trust me you are going to pick up the language faster than you ever thought. That is because your whole body and mind are at alert, this is the occasion where you are literally forced to remember the correct sound and meaning of foreign words, working by nature with its seriousness will force you take it all in, seriously.
.Last step, embrace the culture, make that culture part of your own personality and belief. Now this is something you can't force to, you have to genuinely admire a culture to integrate it into yourself.
So these are the things you should do when you want to master a foreign language, now put them in your to do list and good luck!
