Spider vs Moth

It is the third day.

This little spider has been trapped by me for three days. I didn't forget to check on him every night, I cupped him on the writing table with a little glass that people usually drink shots with. Since I don't drink "shots", I drink directly from the bottle, so keeping the glass is no use for me anyway.

I tapped on the top, which is actually the bottom of the glass, depends on how you see it, the spider jerked, he's still alive.

Good for you little buddy!

Last time I trapped a spider and left him out of the window, only found him got blown away by the night wind, I got pretty upset about it that morning.
I won't make the same mistake again.

He might as well been sleeping all these three days, I found him barely moves. I carefully slid a piece of paper under the glass to seal the opening, then I slowly pick the glass up, my left hand gingerly press the paper against the glass so that the seal won't leak or fall.

Turned on the brightest light in my room, I put it right under the light and observe. Ah, spider web! You little guy spun a web in the bottom of the glass! Well done my friend! Suddenly I grew a lot of admiration and curiosity towards him.

You must be hungry as hell!

I started searching for the dead mosquito I killed yesterday, I punched that bitch on the wall and she fell down on my cabinet surface , when I was trying to search her body on the surface I found that she had already fell through the skinny crack between cabinet and the wall. It is on the floor, under the cabinet.

Well good, all I need to do is to move my cabinet away and find that little bitch.

But I couldn't. It's gone. It happens all the time, these little things are simply too little to be found, live or dead. So I gave up.

No, I didn't give up, I never give up! I remember I killed another mosquito right in the bathroom, I picked that one up and threw it into the glass.

The spider was totally uninterested, he even moved away from it. Oh wait, I killed that mosquito by chemical spray, sure it wouldn't make an appealing meal. So I carefully slide the glass to make the mosquito reach the edge of the glass, then quickly open a crack and slide a little bit further, cup down the glass: the mosquito is out again.

Then I started searching again, there must be something, something that he can eat, something that's alive, something that... that makes a great feast for my little buddy! Yes, I'm gonna find it for you, it's your reward!

Found it! A grain moth on the wall of the entrance of my house!

It is resting on the wall. Grain moths usually have very slow reflex, they are nothing like mosquito or house fly, they are very easy to catch and kill. But still, I was very cautious, I hate when they fly all over you as if they try to give you a revenge bite or something, although rationally I know that won't hurt anyway.

Deep breath... I hold the glass with both my hands in the air, getting closer and closer to the moth. My left hand will retreat any time, and as soon as I remove the seal with my left hand, I'm gonna press the glass over the moth as swiftly as possible yet I don't want to shatter the glass on the wall.

I frowned and did my quickest move, I was lightening fast! I caught it!

The moth panicked, hey, finally some action! You always sit there never move a bit, now you are all about action huh? I observed a little bit, the moth just speed walked around the open of the glass, round and round, searching for an exit. The spider was quiet.

I slowly moved the glass away from the wall and covered my hand on the paper seal, I got you both!

Left them on the table, I watched them, but they seem very disinterested in each other, the spider wasn't at all showing any gratitude or hunger, the moth just resting on the side without a movement, again. After a while, finally my spider friend started to act. He ran around the moth, kept distance, is he spinning another web to trap the moth? I thought that's how spider prepare their food, even if the prey is right there in front of him, he couldn't resist the habit of making a delicious roll out of it.

The spider's mouth open and close rapidly, dancing around the moth, the moth is twice as big as the tiny spider, I suspected that the spider could be terrified by the moth actually. Nothing had happened for a while and I lost patience. I went away from the watching position.

They maybe just need sometime to get to know each other better, before any relationship could be established.

When I came back, I found that the spider had already made a move, he's totally biting the moth's head, the moth's helplessly jerking his body and wings, up and down, up and down, rapidly, struggling, jumping, as if these two are wrestling within the ring.

Interesting.

I turned on flashlight to better observe them. The spider is killing his prey, slowly, it is painful butcher, I can tell by the gradually slow down of the moth's butt movement, the moth has got only his butt moving up and down right now, he completely lost the battle. The up and down movement was painful, very painful. Why won't you give him a quick death, my friend?

Happy eating! I said.

Later, the moth stopped moving.

In fact, the moth has turned belly up, dead.

I opened a little crack, you know what I'm trying to do, and I totally anticipated the spider's next move --- he dropped the moth and tried to jump away from the glass. I immediately closed the glass again, nowhere you are going, no where. You are here, with my treat, you shall first enjoy your treat, and then we decide what to do with your freedom.

Little spider seemed understood me. He crawled onto the moth's body, that reminds me of Hannibal all over the guard's bloody face.

That's it.

I gave a nice little spray into the glass.

He died before finishing the meal.
